To register for the Greener Homes Grant, you’ll need to determine whether or not you meet the eligibility criteria.

You’ll need to undertake a pre and post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation.

Then, you’ll have to complete at least one retrofit that’s recommended by your energy advisor to be eligible for the grant.

Eligibility For The Canada Greener Homes Grant

All Canadian homeowners are eligible for the Greener Home grant, regardless of where they live. Keep in mind, however, that all products must be purchased in Canada and a licensed and trained professional must install all mechanical and electrical systems (except thermostats).

Here at Lockhart Industries, our expertly trained professionals can design, install and maintain a system that suits the needs of your greener home.

What retrofit work is eligible for the Greener Homes Grant? According to the Government of Canada:

  • Save up to a maximum grant of $5000 total for eligible retrofits undertaken after Dec.1, 2020
  • Save up to $600 for a combined total cost of your pre and post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluations

Requirements for this grant:

  • Complete a pre- and post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation
  • At least one retrofit that is eligible must be completed
  • Provide and keep copies of all relevant documents until March 31st, 2028

Here’s what to expect with an Energuide energy efficiency home evaluation.

During the grant process you’ll be required to:

  • Provide proof of home ownership
  • Demonstrate that the property is your primary residence

It should be noted that rentals are not eligible for the Canada Greener Homes Grant.

The following groups are also eligible:

  • Indigenous governments or organizations such as band councils, or land claim organizations
  • Indigenous housing management bodies and other representatives
  • Indigenous service delivery organizations that have formal partnerships with Indigenous governments or organizations

Indigenous applicants are eligible to register multiple houses, including homes that aren’t the owner’s primary residence.

These registered homes must be owned by the applicant and be occupied by Indigenous families.

For convenience, they can submit a single application to streamline the whole process.

Upgrade to Greener Homes With Lockhart Industries

Before you apply for the Greener Homes Grant, ask yourself what the main objective of your retrofit grant is. Is it purely for improved comfort, saving on energy bills, better energy efficiency, helping with the environment, or all of the above?

Before you choose your retrofits, remember that your home operates as a cohesive system. The roof, walls, ventilation, heating and cooling systems, external environment, and your family’s practices will each have an effect. If you choose to replace an old HVAC system but avoid upgrading doors and windows, your savings could literally fly out of the window. How these factors interact with each other will determine your home’s performance.

Better overall performance means a much greener home.

At Lockhart Industries, our professionally trained experts offer high-quality innovation with GeoExchange, air conditioning, air-source heat pumps, refrigeration, and indoor environment-controlled systems.
